According to recent studies, the HCG or Human Chorionic Gonadtropin hormone has an effect on weight loss. Even as it occurs naturally in the body, HCG can also be synthesized artificially. Nowadays, some people take it orally or parenterally with the goal of losing weight in mind. However, taking synthetic HCG must also be coupled with strictly adhering to a very low calorie diet or VLCD. For this reason, many HCG dieters are struggling to find recipes for HCG diet that will enable them to maximize their limited, repetitive, and boring food choices.

Surprisingly enough, HCG dieters can choose a variety of delicious and palatable dishes even while maintaining strict adherence to the HCG diet. Here are samples of recipes that they can choose from: a dish wherein lean hamburger meat, shrimp, fish, or poultry is mixed together with garlic, onion salt, tomatoes, and Italian seasoning to come up with a delicious meal for the meat-lover; a fish entrée wherein white fish is grilled and topped with garlic salt, paprika, and chilli mix; and an iced beverage wherein fresh lemon juice, tomato, artificial sweetener, garlic clove, Tabasco, salt, pepper, and celery seed are blended together and chilled.
They can also try their own recipes, as long as they follow the simple principle that is to avoid fatty foods and anything with sugar or starch.
HCG dieters can also utilize different resources, such as the World Wide Web or HCG diet cookbooks in order to look for new recipes and consequently avoid the boredom that comes with having limited food selections.
Indeed, the restricted menu of the HCG diet makes it difficult to follow, but with the proper resources, such as cookbooks that feature recipes for HCG diet, strict adherence to this diet will not be as tough as it seems.

The Anatomy of a Dish $5.48 The renowned chef of New York’s Verbena restaurant shows how to build a dish—and a menu—from vegetables on up in this innovative cookbook that looks at flavors through a botanical prism. What do Poached Eggs in Asparagus Nests, Leek and Apple Hash, and Sauteed Scallops with Onion Pan Gravy have in common? Aspargus, leeks, and onions (along withe shallots, garlic, and chives) are all part of the botanical family Liliaceae. Diane Forley’s fascination with the properties and groupings of fruits and vegetables—in the garden, in the kitchen, and on the plate—suffuses The Anatomy of a Dish. But this is not a vegetable or vegetarian cookbook. It is a collection of the richly flavorful recipes Forley serves at her restaurant, illuminated by the culinary and botanical explorations that have led to her celebrated cooking style. Forley, one of America’s rising chefs, has arranged her book to reflect her conviction that vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes define sensibility in cooking. Part I, which serves as the book’s foundation, looks at vegetables one at a time, and details some of Forley’s favoirte ways to prepare them. Cooking techniques are explained and applied to an array of vegetables to form side dishes and starting points fo rmore comlete meals. For example, artichokes are braised, shaped into griddle cakes, baked as gratins, and fried as snack chips; mushrooms are sauteed, pureed, and transformed into Forley’s own Worcestershire sauce. A plentitude of notes alongside each recipe offer serving suggestions and menu-building links. From single vegetables, the book moves on to vegetable combinations in salads, soups and stews, pastas, tarts, souffles, and breads. And then, fish, poultry, and meat are added to create dishes that The New York Times praised for being delicious yet "disarmingly simple." Seasonal availability of ingredients inspires the recipes in the dessert chapter. These are alluring treates on their own, at any time, but they thoughtfully complement the savory dishes that precede them. Cooking from this immensely engaging book, you’ll come to expect the unexpected and be thrilled by each encounter. For example, you’ll learn how plants are classified and marvel at the notion that the potato, eggplant, tomato, petunia, and the tobacco plant have much in common, starting with a five-petaled star-shaped flower. (The hugely toxic belladonna also has the same shaped flower. Is it any wonder that the Old World was reluctant to try these New World fruits and vegetables?) Cooks who care to broaden their culinary horizons will find this side excursion into the world of botanical family trees as delicious as they’ll find Forley’s recipes, with their straightforward charm and exceptional soaring flavors. |

The Ethnomusicologists’ Cookbook $21.98 Have you ever wanted to host a full evening of Indian food, culture, and music? How about preparing a traditional Balinese banquet? Or take a trip to the Hebrides and enjoy a Scottish feast? The Ethnomusicologists’ Cookbook takes you around the world on a culinary journey that is also a cultural and social odyssey. Many cookbooks offer a snapshot of individual recipes from different parts of the world, but do nothing to tell the reader how different foods are presented together, or how to relate these foods to other cultural practices. For years, ethnomusicologists have visited the four corners of the earth to collect the music and culture of native peoples, from Africa to the Azores, from Zanzibar to New Zealand. Along the way, they’ve observed how music is an integral part of social interaction, particularly when it’s time for a lavish banquet or celebration. Foodways and cultural expression are not separate; this book emphasizes this connection through offering over 35 complete meals, from appetizers to entrees to side dishes to desserts and drinks. A list of recommended CDs fills out the culinary experience, along with hints on how to present each dish and to organize the overall meal. The Ethnomusicologists’ Cookbook combines scholarship with a unique and fun approach to the study of the world’s foods, musics, and cultures. More than just a cookbook, it is an excellent companion for anyone embarking on a cultural-culinary journey. |

In Dinners in a Dish or a Dash, award winning cookbook author Jean Anderson offers more than 275 great-tasting one-dish meals that are easy to prepare. Yet there’s not one of yesteryear’s "shelf magic" concoctions in the bunch, thank you.Her secret? Today’s supermarkets brim with a new generation of quality convenience foods-frozen chopped onions, peppers, and stir-fry mixes, packaged salas greens and slaws, elegant pasta sauces, cooked shrimp and chicken, frozen puff pastry, zesty salsas, and other spicy condiments, just to name a few. Anderson combines the best of these innovative foods with her impeccable cooking sense to make flavorful food in a flash.Gone are the days of mystery "can of soup" casseroles. Those casseroles make a classy comeback in such dishes as Persian Lamb Pilaf with Mint, Lemon and Zucchini ans Scalloped Corn, Ham and Sweet Peppers. There’s a group of simple sauces that can be prepared while the pasta water comes to a boil- try Fusili, Green Beans, and Tomatoes with Two Cheeses or Creamy Spinach Sauce. No punching up the seasonings, you can bring long-simmered flavor to favorite soups and stews such as Spanish Black Bean Soup and Zip-Quick Country Captain in a fraction of the time. Hot-weather blues? Whip up a cooling, no-cook Salmon and White Bean Salad with Tarragon Vinaigrette or Chicken and Rice Salad with Pesto Dressing.Dinners in a Dish or a Dash even shows how to equip your pantry, refrigerator , and freezer with the indipensable and "useful extra" groceries that make quick cooking a breeze. And taking a trip from busy restaurant kitchens, you’ll learn how to "prep" chopped onions, minced garlic, chooped parsly, broccoli florets, and other essentials to have waiting in your refrigerator for impromptu meals. These one-dish time savers are so great, you’ll enjoy making and eating them even when you’re not cooking against the clock. |

The Wicca Cookbook $11.48 : With menus and recipes for each of the ten sabbats, this is a major resource for anyone planning a dish for the countless potlucks we hold at every season. I began reading it with some fear and trepidation. When the authors began speaking of Medieval customs, I was terribly afraid that the recipes would concentrate on things like boar’s heads and roast oxen, or whatever the Witches of Old might have at their seasonal gatherings. On the contrary, the recipes that Wood and Seefeldt include in this attractive collection tend to be simple and very good, at least to judge from those that I’ve sampled. And no, the ingredients are not at all exotic. I tried making latkes, which were quick and easy to mix in my medieval Cuisinart. With a bit of apple in the mix, they were very good. I also had no problems with soups, which were simple and delicious. But the recipes are only the beginning. A fascinating introduction gives a positive, brief picture of Neo-Pagan Witchcraft, as background for anyone new to the Craft. Then, for each of the sabbats and for each recipe, there is an introduction, suggesting, among other things, rituals for blessing the meal and for invoking the appropriate Deities. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed reading the whole book, from cover to cover, which is something I’ve never done with any of the hundred-or-so other cookbooks sitting on my sagging shelves. This is likely to become my favorite cookbook, and I suspect it could be yours, too. Not just a cookbook, this unusual publication outlines the spiritual relevance of the eight major pagan holidays and offers appropriate rituals, menus, and recipes for each occasion. The recipes are easy to follow and make use of ingredients at their seasonal peak. From dandelion wine to medieval honey cakes, the dishes preserve a culinary tradition closely connected to natural rhythms and enduring symbolism. The authors also include an appendix on growing an herb garden and a resource list of herb seed companies and nurseries. |

And an extensive dessert section ranges from an elegant Lemon and Grappa Crostata to the rich, crunchy Croccante Semifreddo. With each recipe, Selvaggio, the most respected wine expert in the country, includes a selection of sublime wines from budget finds to spectacular bottles for a special occasion. His tasteful pairings enhance each dish, and this show of expertise is one of the most unusual and valuable qualities of The Valentino Cookbook.Simple or complex, traditional or progressive for Selvaggio, all good cooking is, at heart, very personal: a journey of taste for which the end isn’t nearly as important as the fantasias along the way.
