Family Recipes

How are family recipes better than packaged ready to eat foods?
Packaged foods aren’t healthy in a sense that it goes through many processes and many nutrients are lost whereas for family recipes, it’s more healthier and you get to pick fresh meat/greenies everyday. If I were you, I’d opt for family recipes.

Recipes $25.48 Recipes. Cooking all comes down to the recipes — those ingredient-by-ingredient, technique-by-technique, step-by-step instructions. In Recipes, Susan Spungen, founding food editor and editorial director for food at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia for twelve years, presents her own easy, unfettered ideas for cooking simple food rich with freshness and flavors to share with family and friends. Recipes is organized by technique, explaining why sautéing is great for two or four but when feeding a crowd braising is the better choice. "Prepare" focuses on the basics, from making a vinaigrette to roasting garlic and peppers. "Chop" includes not just salads, but gazpacho and a Provençal sandwich that requires knife skills. "Sauté" explains how to pan-sear fish and make a layered omelet. "Grill" shows proper techniques for cooking scallops, asparagus, and steak over an open fire. "Roast" offers the perfect roast chicken and a roasted squash salad. "Bake" features a variety of pizzas as well as mushrooms baked in parchment paper. "Simmer and Braise" coaxes the most flavors from soups and lamb shanks. Finally, there’s "Indulge," a selection of desserts from simple brownies and peach melba to a fruit crisp and a rich chocolate cake. Susan believes that one of the most pleasurable parts of a meal should be the making of it. Recipes encourages home cooks to become confident cooks. |

PaPa’s Family Recipes $12.98 ¿As far back as I can remember, my Dad seemed to have the ability to do anything. He was my Superman. One of the things he enjoyed most was cooking and baking for his family and friends. I think it was one of his greatest passions. That is what makes this book so special. Daddy made everything special, from every day dinners, to family holidays. Creating this book was something my Dad always dreamed of. He wrote his recipes down for his family so we would have them and keep our traditions for generations to come. I have compiled these wonderful delights in a cookbook dedicated to him. I think my Dad would smile knowing that someone who loved to cook or someone just beginning to learn, can share special times with their family serving one of his favorites. He was the best Dad and Papa anyone could have. We will all miss him, and love him always.¿…Linda Randazzo |

2500 Recipes $19.48 How to escape the cooking routine of the same old dishes, meal after meal. Many home cooks are stuck in a food routine that includes preparing the same 10 or 15 recipes over and over again, week after month after year. 2500 Recipes, the ideal guide to escaping that routine, offers 50 recipes each for foods ranging from snacks and sandwiches, to chicken and ground meat; from shellfish to grains; from winter vegetables to summer fruit. There’s also a special section of dishes for special occasions. Consider this common scenario. There is a chicken waiting to be roasted for dinner. Stop. Go the chapter that has 50 recipes for roast chicken. Each one is different. Most important, there are sure to be a few that are more interesting than that old reliable one prepared out of habit — too often a bad habit. Without doubt, there will be dozens of recipes based on ingredients commonly on hand to please cook, family and guests. There’s even a chapter with 50 scrumptious recipes for burgers and hot dogs. Each one is sure to delight. All the recipes are quick, and most use just a small number of ingredients. But each recipe includes a "power flavor" that’s easy to obtain and easy to incorporate into cooking routines. Examples include oils, herbs, olives and sun-dried tomatoes. There is also an entire section on basic cooking techniques and preparations, featuring seasonings, marinades, sauces, dressings and machines. |

Endangered Recipes $22.48 Great recipes are family treasures and America’s culinary legacy. But what should be enduring heirlooms are easily lost-gone out of fashion, or locked up in one cook’s recipe box. Endangered Recipes showcases dishes in danger of extinction-homey favorites, the kind of food eaten on the summer porch, at the neighbors’ house, or with your grandparents. Lari Robling has tapped into America’s food memory bank to unearth almost-forgotten classics such as Welsh Rarebit, Green Goddess Dressing, and Nashville House Fried Biscuits with Homemade Apple Butter. The recipes she’s collected reflect the extraordinary range of American cooking, from Parker House Rolls to Crispy Fried Chicken to Homemade Banana Pudding. Endangered Recipes also contains Robling’s own cooking memories and some of the great food stories she’s encountered, as well as sidebars that spotlight the people who are "recipe rescuers." The author also includes a practical guide to preserving your own family’s food legacy-its recipes and its stories. Now is the perfect time to begin saving-and savoring-our nearly forgotten dishes. |

Simple Recipes $9.99 With delicate language and wisdom, Madeleine Thien explores the longing of families pulled apart by conflicts between generations, cultures, and values. Each of these stories captures a deeply personal world in which characters struggle to reconcile family loyalty with individual desires. In “House,” a 10-year-old girl longs for the alcoholic mother who left the house one day never to return. In “Dispatch,” a woman tries to hold her marriage together even after finding proof that her husband is in love with someone else. In “A Map of the City, ” a young woman’s troubled relationship with her father overshadows the course she takes in her adult life. Thien’s fresh perspective and spare, haunting prose have already won her prizes and the praise of established masters. “Simple Recipes” is the beginning of a luminous writing career. |

Recipes Even God Will Love $25.48 Author Lanny Alan Yeske, PhD, was never a cook. However, his family and friends were. He began collecting their recipes decades ago, and then combined those with others from submarine and university days. Then he found some incredible recipes from America in the early 1800s, Ancient Persia 5000 years ago, and the deepest parts of the South. These are supplemented with some of the worst recipes existing on the Planet, as well as a few dozen for making wine and alcoholic beverages. This is a guy’s cookbook, no feminine frills, except where Dr. Yeske was brow-beaten to submission by family. Many of the recipes contained are rare and hard-to-find. Let Dr. Yeske take your kitchen to a new level. Recipes Even God Will Love will be the most unusual and entertaining cookbook you have ever seen. |

An Italian Cookbook of Family Treasure Stories and Recipes from a Lifetime $26.98 About An Italian Cookbook of Family Treasures As the title states this is more than a cookbook but a book of Family Treasures. The Authors opens up about his Italian family and the history of them making their way from Calabria and Sicily Italy to America and settling in upstate New York. In a different and unique way Schuler has tied his family roots to recipes dating back 100 years. These include such family favorites as the original family sauce recipe and home made pasta to family favorites prepared daily in their home. Not only are his grandparent’s part of the story but, aunts, uncles and close family friends are tied to recipes and interesting stories that make each recipe a true treasure. The theme is Italian cooking but other popular entrées have found their way to the dinner table, desert tray, and holiday gift baskets and yes the family bar. Drinks found to be family favorites and each having a special occasion and special person associated with the drink is described in the story and recipe sections. |
