San Francisco
What is the best area to stay in San Francisco?
I am planning to go to san francisco this Christmas but don’t know which area is best.. We are two adults and 2 kids (5 & 4). I want something close to everything and in a nice safe area where we can walk at night. Any advice?

It really depends on what kind of surroundings you would like. Here are a few suggestions:
Union Square/Nob Hill Area: In the middle of it all! Cable cars, shopping district, crowds of people, both tourists and locals. Full on energy. Only downside might be the noise levels at night (only if you stay in an old boutique hotel) and you have to be careful that the hotel address is not in the Tenderloin area which borders Union Square. Tendorloin = bad.
Fisherman’s Wharf: Where a lot of tourists like to stay, but really, not a very authentic San Francisco area of the city. Safe? yes. Touristy? yes. Exciting? No.
Embarcadero Area: A few hotels in the financial district area. This area really emptys out at night and the only people left on the streets are people you will not want to meet most likely. But, great access to public transportation and very close to a lot of great areas (union square, north beach, chinatown, fisherman’s wharf).
I would honestly suggest a place on top of Nob Hill or a hotel on union square. Good luck!
